Say “Da” to Russian restaurant week: Vis-a-Vis, Baku, and more

Now is the time to savor mouthwatering fare drawn from the vast expanse of Eurasia. During the week of May 18–24, participating establishments will offer the flavors of Russia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Georgia and Moldova at tempting discounts. Vis à Vis (Brighton Beach)
Located in bustling Brighton Beach, Vis à Vis offers “global contemporary cuisine rooted in French techniques.” Chef Charles Disanayake’s menu includes innovative culinary delights such as his special take on a spicy tuna tartar, glazed salmon, flaming foie gras on hot salt stones, short rib terrine with baby kale and roasted apple turnip purée, his award-winning brandied ginger marmalade bread pudding, and much more.

Rooted in the crossroads traditions of Odessa, Ukraine, Glechik boasts a delicious menu directly passed down to owner Vadim Tesler by his mother and grandmother, go-to cooks in that seaport resort city. From varenika with meat baked with mushrooms and mozzarella, to veal liver “Kristian style” with Bulgarian pepper and onion, Glechik offers food for the heart, from the soul.

Signature on Emmons (Sheepshead Bay)
Enjoy a waterfront view in Sheepshead Bay at Signature on Emmons. This neighborhood favorite features French, Asian Fusion and New American cuisine. Their high-quality steak has pride of place, from the porterhouse to the filet mignon. But leave plenty of room for dessert, because Yelp reviewers say they’re “terrific.”

Baku Palace (Sheepshead Bay)
Whether you’re hosting an intimate dinner party or throwing the wedding of a lifetime for 300, Baku Palace makes a big impression. With four spacious dining rooms overlooking the bay, and a number of Azerbaijani-flavored menus featuring seafood, kebabs, sushi and steak, there should be something to please everyone.

As the name suggests, XO Creperie are masters of the crepe. Their extensive list of crepes varies from chicken with mushrooms and bacon, to salmon with spinach in garlic sauce, to dessert favorites like chocolate, Nutella, ice cream, fresh fruit and their signature XO Special crepe. The menu also features such classic dishes such as tuna tartare and duck Wellington.

Cats on the Bay is a brand New French/New American Restaurant with inventive cuisine. Menu items at this bayside favorite include such Russian favorites as mushrooms “po Boyarski,” borscht, beef Stroganoff, chicken Kiev, as well as full fish and meat course menus.
