Explore Brooklyn represented the borough for the 4th year in a row at IPW as a unique destination to buyers and media from more than 70 countries. In this three day “speed-dating” pow-wow in Washington, D.C.
What is IPW?
The U.S. Travel Association’s IPW (International Pow-Wow) celebrated its 49th year in Washington, D.C. from June 5 to June 7, 2017. This exciting travel industry trade show attracts some 1,300 buyers (travel agents and booking sites, to name a few) and media from across the globe, interested in learning more about what U.S. destinations have to offer in the coming years.
Why Did Explore Brooklyn Attend?
As a supplier, Explore Brooklyn represented the borough for the 4th year in a row at IPW as a unique destination to buyers and media from more than 70 countries. In this three day “speed-dating” pow-wow, over 100 pre-scheduled appointments were held between buyers and media, to share news about the borough, local trends and exciting Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce member news. There to promote Brooklyn as the leading destination for international and domestic travelers were six Brooklyn Chamber members: Levy’s Unique New York, Luna Park, Turnstile Tours, Hampton Inn Brooklyn, Wyndham Garden Brooklyn and The William Vale Hotel.
In addition to the pre-scheduled appointments at the Explore Brooklyn booth, Explore Brooklyn also participated in Media Marketplace to meet with journalists and media outlets from across the world in an intimate setting to discuss travel trends, borough news, local economies, and Brooklyn’s growing tourism scene.
During lunch each day, there was a client lunch, where our six Brooklyn had the chance to dine with important international and domestic buyers and journalists, while enjoying entertainment from the sponsoring destinations. After each day, there was a client and attendee networking component, where Explore Brooklyn co-sponsored an evening networking session at Fig & Olive with NYC & Company.
Who Represented Brooklyn?
As a representation of how visitors can make Brooklyn a thriving destination, Explore Brooklyn was joined by Levy’s Unique New York, Luna Park, Turnstile Tours, Hampton Inn Brooklyn, Wyndham Garden Brooklyn and The William Vale Hotel at IPW 2017. In order to show how visitors can eat, play, stay and explore in Brooklyn, it was crucial to have a variety of Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce members to represent various aspects of the tourism industry.
With unique tours focused on food, history, culture and more, Levy’s Unique New York and Turnstile Tour were able to speak to the experiences of exploring the borough with locals, while Luna Park showcased the great history of outdoor entertainment and waterfront experiences. As Brooklynites know, the best way to explore the borough is to stay in the borough. For that reason, it was important to the Chamber to bring three exciting hotels: The newly opened William Vale Hotel, the sustainably-focused Wyndham Garden Brooklyn and Hampton Inn, located by the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge.
With inspiration from this year’s IPW in Washington D.C., Explore Brooklyn has already registered for IPW’s 50th Anniversary tradeshow in Denver, Colorado in May 2018. The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and Explore Brooklyn hope that participation at IPW in 2017 and 2018 will help interest in Brooklyn as a destination, in order to boost the local economy and continue cultivating a positive environment for local businesses to thrive.
