In collaboration with Airbnb, Explore Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce held the 5th networking event this year, where Airbnb hosted and local business owners mingled. The goal for a hyper-local event like the Explore Coney Island Tourism Mixer is to create a bridge between Airbnb hosts and local businesses owners to promote the spending of dollars in the nearby community.
This month, some 60 attendees joined our evening event at MCU Park in Coney Island for networking and a Brooklyn Cyclones game on July 19th. Attendees enjoyed local food and beverages sponsored by Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs, Luna Park, Gargiulio’s and Coney Island Brewery.
By connecting those who rent their rooms to domestic and international visitors with local business owners, Airbnb hosts become better equipped to introduce their guests to both the neighborhood and borough at large. These events further expose locals to experiences in their own communities that they may have not explored prior to meeting with business owners. Through these personal connections, Airbnb hosts are more likely to recommend small businesses and keep tourists exploring locally in Brooklyn.
The Explore Coney Island Tourism Mixer received support from Community Board 13 Leader Eddie Mark and Assembly Member Pamela Harris, who are championing tourism to the Coney Island area, which does not have any hotels. Therefore, it is important for the community to support and educate Airbnb hosts who share all that the Brooklyn and Coney Island community has to offer with their guests.
