I can't think of words to express my anger toward Matthew, the manager at the Aloft in Brooklyn tonight. It had been an unexpectedly long day with a delayed flight (that was supposed to arrive at 11pm) and luggage delays. I'm a disabled vet, so the night had additional delays due to being directed to get off the subway at a station with no elevators. I'm in a wheelchair. I made reservations in December and was told that I would get a lower rate if I prepaid. I printed my prepaid room confirmations. Two days before our arrival in NYC, I called to confirm the reservations and was told that every night but the last was already paid for and the reservation was confirmed. We didn't get to the hotel until 3 am due to no fault of our own, but when we arrived, the girl at the front desk (Carolyn) found our reservation had been canceled. She called her manager, Matthew to help her reinstate it. He told her that he would not honor the rates we had been quoted, but would instead charge us over $200 per night so to make a new reservation and charge us an ADDITIONAL half rate for THE NIGHT BEFORE due to our arrival time. When we told him we didn't think that was right and showed him the prepaid confirmation, he refused to look at the paper and said that he was not even going to allow us to check in at all. It was bizarre and unexpected. Voices had not been raised. We had disagreed with him. The girl at the computer was clearly trying to help us reason with him, but he was beyond reason. We had stayed at aloft before and unfortunately recommended it to friends. We are severely disappointed in this experience. It was that he turned away a disabled veteran in a wheelchair and left us without a room in the middle of the night. Unreal!
Dear Sir/Madam, I'm planning a visit to New York. I do not have a creditcard, so I pay the room in advance. Is it possible to check-in without a creditcard. Kind regards, Jasper Wagteveld
