Neighborhood Guide

Flatlands

No direct subway access creates a suburban enclave in the Flatlands.

This small, diverse neighborhood is located near the south shore of Brooklyn, between Canarsie and Marine Park. What was once a predominantly Jewish neighborhood is now also a mix of Haitian and Caribbean immigrants. The tree-lined blocks of modest detached homes, as well as a number of small parks, give the Flatlands a suburban feel. Photo courtesy of mercurialn via Flickr.
