This waterfront neighborhood packs in a lot of personality, with some awesome views to boot. It’s home to families who have lived in the area for decades, as well as a diverse immigrant population. You’ll find fishing boats docked in the bay and locals crammed into seafood joints like Randazzo’s Clam Bar. Sheepshead Bay is Brooklyn’s water town, through and through.

Masal Cafe is home to the one famous lundry's. Its now a unique cafe filled with delicious treats and authentic flavors. Masal Cafe looks over the scenic marina of Sheepshead Bay. Unlike any other cafe it has great ambience and a rich vibe. Classic Kilim covered chairs and tiled tables fill the room. A huge portrait of Istanbul on the wall gives you a eeling as if your really there.
Located in the former Lundy’s building on a prime stretch of Emmons Avenue, this always-busy hibachi steakhouse appeals to starry-eyed patrons who gawk at speed-searing chefs and feed on dependable favorites like teriyakis and tempuras, plus the usual sushi-roll suspects. While the tricks may impress, the tossed-about steak is chewy, though its accompanying onion-leaning fried rice redeems it. Eating what’s for show isn’t the only option here, however. Sauteed yaki udon, arrives like an improved Japanese cousin of lo mein. It’s also hard to resist the “Special Roll for Special Customer” section of the menu—non-locals might feel the need to try the Sheepshead Bay roll with a non-native mix of octopus, shrimp, lettuce, squash, avocado, and mayo. To finish, red-bean ice cream here is not too sweet and very delicious. — Jill Weiskopf
This Sheepshead Bay legend, founded in 1970 by Buddy Lamonica, is the flagship of what has become an exemplary fast-food chain. The staff, bedecked in brown seventies-style uniforms, serves up burgers and gravy-soaked turkey and roast-beef sandwiches on freshly baked Kaiser rolls. Lines of patrons grab tables in the cafeterialike space or take the food to go. Thin-crust pizzas are the sleeper hit, and sandwiches taste best with specialty sides of sweet corn fritters, or fries topped with hot Cheez Whiz. After all, as a sign reminds customers, “You can have cheez on anything you pleez.” — Jill Weiskopf
Now in its second location, next door to the shuttered original, the late Helen Randazzo’s famed waterfront seafood mecca maintains crowds thanks to fresh Bluepoint clams shucked in plain view and a legendary tomato-sauce recipe that covers seafood pastas and pairs with fried calamari and shrimp. A New England clam chowder that’s thick with clams and chunks of potato is also a highlight, as is the chicken parmigiana. While not the most ordered dish, the latter is one of the best, swaddled in cheese and a smoky, slightly sweet marinara sauce. — Jill Weiskopf

Our goal is to provide visitors to NYC an opportunity to see New York, and Brooklyn in particular, through the eyes of a local resident. Live, eat and shop in a neighborhood, with real people; sit down to a Sunday breakfast of bagels and cream cheese while you peruse the NY Times and plan your day. Or take advantage of a champagne brunch a few blocks away. If it's Saturday, step across the street to the weekly green market where Upstate and New Jersey farmers sell their produce of fruits and vegetables, meats and fish, herbs and spices, honey, preserves, baked goods, plants and flowers, or take a walk through Prospect Park and visit the zoo, playgrounds, the band shell or audobon center. Flatbush Avenue diners serve up breakfast and lunch in the tradition of immigrants from Greece and Eastern Europe or have a Parisian style breakfast of coffee and pastry on the avenues.
These piers, which lie along Emmons Avenue between Ocean Avenue and East 26th Street, are located in a neighborhood named for a fish native to the Atlantic coast all the way from Nova Scotia to the Gulf of Mexico. Sheepshead Bay’s 10 fixed piers offer yearly and transient dockage for commercial charter vessels, along with passenger loading and unloading. There is also dock and dine for recreational boaters. Commercial vessels include dinner and special events cruises as well as charter fishing and diving trips. Fishing from the pier itself is also a popular pastime. Sheepshead Bay’s neighborhood offers popular seafood restaurants and other attractions.
Wheeler's is part dive bar, part restaurant, part local joint that anyone can go to and have a blast. Offering a solid selection of beer. The burgers are great, really all their food is great. The service is friendly. Very busy and loud on the weekends. Darts, pinball, live music from time to time and big screen TV's in the back to watch any sports game you want.
The Log Cabin, one of Sheepshead Bay’s oldest bars, has slashed its storefront in half and is now going by the name The Brass Rail. The bar launched several new beer options on tap as well after years of being known to locals as the place with “several taps, all Bud.” They’ve also been doing a lot of themed events. Great place for karaoke, watch a game or just have a pint with complimentary hot dog.
