Brooklyn trivia nights and pub quizzes

Haven’t heard back about your Jeopardy! tryout? There are plenty of opportunities to show off your vast knowledge of 80s TV shows or baseball stats here in Brooklyn. Nowadays, it seems as if every Brooklyn bar has a trivia night. You won’t win a million dollars, but you get to hang out with friends, give your brain a workout, and maybe even score a free bar tab. Here are a few Brooklyn pub quizzes worth trying out.

Pete’s Candy Store (Williamsburg) challenges its patrons every Wednesday night with “Quizzo,” which they bill as NYC’s finest trivia. First Prize is a $75 bar tab, second is a $40 tab, and third prize is a $15 tab; Quizzo is often scouted by bookers for Jeopardy and Cash Cab, and winners earn a place in the twice-yearly finals.

Cherry Tree (Park Slope)
This trivia night also takes place on Wednesday nights and rewards winners with a $100 bar tab. Contestants need not worry about missing the questions, as queries are projected onto a screen. Non-winners can console themselves with Cherry Tree’s extensive beer selection and a backyard that wins raves from visitors.

Uncle Barry’s (Park Slope)
The #1 rule at Uncle Barry’s Trivia Night, every Wednesday at 9:00, is that there are no rules. Still, smart phones are banned and players are encouraged to “be nice to each other.” With as many as five players on a team and a first prize of $50, this one’s more for fun and less for glory.

Black Rabbit (Greenpoint)
Nerd Alert! Is the name of Black Rabbit’s trivia night, which awards smarties with shots and gives a $25 bar tab to the smartest person in the room. Because it takes place on Tuesdays from 8–10 p.m., it’s a good tune-up for all those Wednesday night contests.

The Bell House (Gowanus)
Trivia nights at this Gowanus bar/event space occur sporadically and with a hefty cover. But if you want to pony up $26, on October 26, you can take part in Pat Kiernan’s Ultimate Book Trivia night, hosted by the beloved NY1 newscaster. Participants will enjoy multiple rounds of team trivia, and may get to join Pat onstage for 1-on-1 trivia–with the chance to win a huge trove of theme-appropriate prizes such as books, shows, tours, and more. Check their events page for more trivia-themed nights.

Pacific Standard (Boerum Hill)
The long-running Pub Quiz held here on Sundays at 8 p.m. is one of the most popular in the borough. While first prize for the weekly contest is a round of drinks, teams of up to six players are then entered into a recurring playoff structure where they can win a food and beverage party that is fairly extravagant.
