NEIGHBORHOOD GUIDE

Gravesend

Jewish and Italian families dominate this primarily residential neighborhood.

This neighborhood is home to predominantly Italian and Jewish populations, and homes near yeshivas sell for some of the highest prices in the entire borough. The blocks are dominated by impressive, modern mansions next to more modest, older homes. You will also find Italian specialty stores along Avenue U, as well as the very popular Sicilian restaurant Joe’s of Avenue U. Although this neighborhood is quiet, it is just a short train ride from the hustle and bustle of Coney Island. Photo courtesy of Jesse Friedman via Flickr.
