Lavender Lake

Inside the large, airy space – which used to be a former carriage house and now sports a minimalist look, all exposed brick and wooden beams – you’ll find a rotating menu of cocktails, which run $11 a piece and include their signature L.L.I.T. (or Lavender Lake Iced Tea), a mix of lavender-infused vodka, earl grey iced tea, lemon and simple syrup. While you sip, take advantage of their full-service kitchen, which offers dishes such as fried brussels sprouts with a lemon aioli dipping sauce and mignonette pickled oysters along with heartier fare like grilled pork chop with polenta and mustard greens. If you come on a weekend, however, exercise a little restraint when it comes to heavy eating and drinking: DJs spin Motown tracks and other classics and you may find yourself wanting to join in on an impromptu dance party inside the main room or out on the bar’s patio. Weekends are their busiest times and often see a changing of the guard – the stroller set predominates in the afternoon before making way for stylish twenty-and-thirtysomethings to take over until the wee hours of the night. summer, the light-strung, 1,600-square-foot outdoor patio hosts spit-roasts, movie screenings, and a wine-and-beer station. — Abby Schreiber
